My Q600 is pulling to the right. It seemed to start this after going over a speed bump.

I have learned I can not drive it at this time as the motor gets really hot on the right.

Wondering if the motor just needs replacing and what that will cost.

Called a local repair guy who called the Pride tech. The pride tech said to take readings with a meter which he did. But, all 4 readings were wrong so he assumed it was his meter.

Waiting for him to return. I asked him to return today and put the power chair back together at least so I can charge the battery.

I was told by another tech when the chair was first donated to me that  they had to replace the batteris because i let the chair sit too long without charging.

he said I needed to charge the batteries every 3 days or so. Wondering if that is true too. I do now, as I am using the chair much more and need to.

So, this is a two fold question.

Katherine, sorry I can't help with the motor problem, but as far as batteries go, you should charge the chair all night every night if you use it every day.  If the chair isn't being used, then charge it once a week.  Just remember that you certainly aren't going to hurt the battery by charging it.

A good rule of thumb is, "if you use it, charge it!"

Thanks Justin. I asked the repair man to come and put things back together so I at least can charge the batteries.

He did not agree with me. Said it could sit for 3 weeks or so. Told him, the bottom line is I need him to come and put things back together so I can charge them to be on the safe side.

He is new to repairing power chairs.

HI Katherine,

The reason your chair is pulling to the right may be the result of a break hang up. It looks like you may need a new motor assembly, if your chair is still under warranty, this repair would be covered.

Please keep me posted,

Chelsey...that is exactly what it is acting like. I don't know if I mentioned but I think it started when I went over a speed bump.  Is there some other way to fix the break hang up beside replacing the motor assembly??

I have moved the brake levers up and down but that did not help.

OK Systems are reconnected so I was able to charge batteries.

Thankfully, the readings were good. So, it is still a mystery at this point. Repair guy will be calling the Pride Tech on Monday.

Kstherine,

You can get the brake sperately, your provider would just have to wire it in for you. However, if it is a newer chair, you would be better off replacing the entire motor assembly since it will still be under warrenty.

I hope this helps, please keep me posted.

The manual says it was sold in 2006. It was donated to me in 2007. PC repair guy says it needs a new motor.

And he explained why to me which I appreciated and what he has done as recommended by Pride tech. What I am wondering is how long do motor's last and perhaps replacing both at the same time is a good idea if I can come up with funds.

Tried calling Pride today but they were closed. Hoping my telephone skills work tomorrow.

One last try. he is bringing a compressor over to see if he can blow the dirt out.

If that doesn't work, then it will need a new motor. Est cost $1,000.

This is not looking good. My main goal right now is to not let it get to me.

I do not have the funds to get this repaired. Any ideas on organizations that might be able to help?

I also am thinking the tires and batteries will need to be replaced soon too. I think I have had the chair 3 years now.

Insurance will not help.

Katherine,

You don't necessarily have to replace both motors, it wouldn't hurt, but it's not something that would definitely have to be done.

Also, you will have to check any local organizations to see if you can get any financial help.

Please keep me posted.
